ED extends lockdown as he opens taverns to fully vaccinated drunkards

Cabinet has given licensed bars the greenlight to reopen after nearly 19 months of Covid-19 restrictions, which saw the showbiz and nightlife industry go into comatose.

Ironically, the announcement was made as President Mnangagwa extended the Level 2 Covid-19 lockdown by a further two weeks. The Level 2 lockdown comes with restrictions such as a lengthy night time curfew among other constraints, which are not good for such businesses.

Further, bars have been ordered to allow only fully vaccinated patrons into their premises.

Speaking during Tuesday’s 34th post-Cabinet media briefing Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said: “All licensed bars can now open to fully vaccinated clients. Bar owners are also required to ensure that Covid-19 protocols and guidelines are enforced, failure of which, licences will be withdrawn

President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Tuesday extended the Level 2 COVID-19 lockdown by a further two weeks. Mutsvangwa said:

HE President Emmerson Mnangagwa has extended Level 2 Lockdown by a further two weeks. The public is advised to continue to observe WHO and National COVID-19 protocols of sanitizing, masking up, practising social distancing and observing curfew hours.

All licensed bars can now open to fully vaccinated clients. Bar owners are also required to ensure that COVID-19 protocols and guidelines are enforced, failure of which, licences will be withdrawn.

Regular bars were closed in March last year when the country entered its first lockdown in response to the coronavirus crisis.
