PICS: Zimbabwe launches national dress and national fabric

The government of Zimbabwe on Saturday launched the National Dress and the National Fabric. The program was spearheaded by First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa who said that “the national dress will be a form of identity for Zimbabweans.”

According to Government spokesperson and permanent secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Nick Mangwana the national fabric was designed following extensive consultation across the country’s 10 provinces.

Writing on social media, Mangwana said,

The National fabric was designed in consultation with different stakeholders from all the 10 provinces. They then agreed that the Zimbabwe bird is the symbol that uniquely and best describes us as Zimbabweans. The theme of launch is “Zimbabwe, My Identity, My Pride.

The launch of the national dress was attended by the President, the First Lady, cabinet ministers and high ranking government officials. Speaking at the event, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said that the launch of the National Dress is part of the immortalisation of the African Continent’s common history and cultural heritage.
