A heartbroken mother has revealed that her 13-year-old daughter is currently cohabitating with a man three times her age.

Metrina Fred, the mother of the juvenile, said that her daughter has been staying with 40-year-old Collen Bhamusi, for the last 2 years.

Bhamusi is alleged to have entered into a relationship with the minor when she was just 11 years old. The mother reported the abuse at Ruwa Police Station and Bhamusi was arrested.

However, when he appeared in court, he was granted bail and has been out ever since. Instead of repenting from his pervert ways, Bhamusi is alleged to have continued cohabitating with the minor. According to the mother of the 13-year-old, the 40-year-old is now taking proactive steps to ensure that he does not get arrested again.

She alleged that Bhamusi and her daughter are being shielded from the police by some of the people in the new Mabvuku neighbourhood where they stay. The mother accused Bhamusi’s landlord of being the main culprit in shielding him from the law.

She told the Herald that her minor daughter had texted her sister and told her that they are no longer responding to any impromptu knocks on the door because they are afraid of the police.

The mother of the teen also revealed that despite her tender age, this is not the first man that she has cohabitated with. The minor is said to have fallen pregnant when she was just 10 years old. The pregnancy was aborted because the minor’s body was too small to carry the pregnancy to term and deliver the baby safely without putting her life in jeopardy.

The minor who is supposed to be doing her Form 1 this year is reported to be heavily pregnant.

Ms Fred did not mention if any action was taken against the first man who impregnated her daughter.

She claimed that despite her best efforts, her daughter always runs away and returns to Bhamusi, whenever they take her home. She also said some civil society organisations had tried to help the abused minor by providing counselling services and sheltering her. However, this seems to not have worked as the minor keeps running away.

The police have appealed for any information which may lead to the arrest of Collen Bhamusi. Harare provincial spokesperson Assistant Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi said that Bhamusi is proving elusive and the police have been unable to apprehend him despite actively searching for him in the past few months. He reiterated that the police are still investigating Bhamusi’s whereabouts.
