US$2 change lands man in trouble with shebeen queen

A man from Bulawayo was left nursing his wounds after a shebeen queen allegedly scalded him with hot water over a US$2 change misunderstanding.

Brilliant Hlomai (34) of Ntabazinduna flats in Mzilikazi suburb was arrested and charged with assault after she poured hot water on Kgomotso Nkosi (27) when had come to collect his change.

According to The Chronicle, Hlomai was not asked to plead when she appeared before Tredgold Magistrate Learnear Khumalo.

It is in the States case that on the 3rd of April 2021 at around 7.20 PM and at Ntabazinduna Flats, Hlomai had a misunderstanding with Nkosi who is her customer over US$2.

The accused told the complainant that his change had been collected by his friend. This did not go down well with Nkosi and resulted in a misunderstanding.

The accused went inside her house and came out with a jug full of boiling water which she poured on the complainant’s upper left arm.

Following the incident, Nkosi reported the matter to the police, leading to Hlomai’s arrest.

Magistrate Khumalo remanded Hlomai in custody to 12 April as the court awaits a medical report on the extent of Nkosi’s injuries.

In another related incident, a suspected drunken man stabbed a fellow imbiber after a misunderstanding over a US$1 debt.

Tirivangani Makoni, 31, was arrested and charged with attempted murder after the alleged attack on David Nevanji at Solani Shopping Centre in Epworth.

He was not asked to plead to the allegations when he appeared before Harare magistrate Tafadzwa Miti last week and was remanded in custody to April 14.

It is alleged that on March 17, Makoni, who was drunk, had a misunderstanding with the complainant demanding his US$1 back.

Makoni allegedly took an empty bottle and broke it before stabbing Nevanji on the neck and on his hand. Nevanji sustained serious injuries, leading to Makoni’s arrest.
