President Mnangagwa appoints ex-MDC-T VP to the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission. Among the commissioners is Obert Chaurura Gutu, a former MDC national spokesperson and deputy justice minister during the all-inclusive government between 2009 and 2013.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has sworn five new National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) commissioners at State House this Friday. Gutu initially quit the MDC-T in 2018 in the immediate aftermath of the death of its leader Morgan Tsvangirai.

He eventually joined a faction that was then led by Thokozani Khupe and was appointed deputy president in the same year. Gutu resigned yet again from his position in January 2020 citing “personal and private reasons.”

On 17 March this year, Gutu and former MDC Senator James Makore were paraded at State House as they announced that they had joined the ruling ZANU PF party.

The new commissioners are:

  • Donwell Dube
  • Tinashe Rukuni
  • Chiropafadzo Moyo
  • Obert Chaurura Gutu
  • Josephine Shambare
  • Nomaqhawe Gwere
