UK to deport 100 offending Zimbabweans back home

Zimbabwe and the United Kingdom have struck a deal for the deportation of over 100 Zimbabwean nationals who were convicted of various offences in Britain.

A meeting on 23 June between Zimbabwe’s foreign affairs ministry and the British embassy resolved that a flight would be chartered from London to Harare for the purposes of “returning Zimbabwean nationals with no right to remain in the UK”.

A notice from the British Embassy in Harare, dated 30 June 2021, states that it was agreed during a meeting between the UK and Zimbabwe that 100 people would be identified for deportation.

The note reads:

The Embassy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland presents its compliments to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe and has the honour to refer to the meeting between the Ministry and the Embassy on 23 June 2021 attended on behalf of the Ministry by Legal Advisor and Director Legal and Consular Services Mr S Nyakotyo and on behalf of the Embassy by Second Secretary Migration Delivery Officer Ms Emily Hardy.

The Embassy would like to thank the representatives of the Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe for the meeting and the agreements made regarding a chartered flight to Harare from London for the purpose of returning Zimbabwean nationals with no right to remain in the UK. The flight is scheduled to arrive on the morning of 22 July.

The Embassy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe the assurances of its highest consideration.
