Acting President Constantino Chiwenga has made fun of Nelson Chamisa, the leader of the newly formed Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), saying the former MDC Alliance president named the party after himself.

Chiwenga was speaking at Njovo wetland in Masvingo Central where he officially launched the National Wetlands Policy and the Wetlands Management Guidelines.

He also criticised the Douglas Mwonzora MDC-T councils for running down towns and cities and urged his audience to vote for the ruling ZANU PF party in the 26 March by-elections. Said Chiwenga:

We (ZANU PF) are going to contest the by-election with a newly born small party, kanonzi chii zviye zita racho, Chete Chete (CCC), how can you (Mr Chamisa) say you are the only person, ndiwe munhu chete here hakuna zvakadaro.

… Services in most towns and cities are now completely non-existent and even workers (council) are not paid and this is because of maladministration. Is that what you want to vote for again in the coming by-elections?

You have heard and seen for yourself that (opposition) people are useless, so let us make sure we vote them out and ZANU PF sweeps all the wards and seats that will be contested during the by-election

Chiwenga called on ZANU PF supporters to maintain peace ahead of by-elections saying there are some elements who want to ignite violence in the hope that there will be foreign intervention.

The expulsion of Killer Zivhu from ZANU PF and the death of Joosbi Omar (ZANU PF) created vacancies for Chivi South and Mwenezi East, respectively. There are also nine wards in Masvingo Province up for grabs.
