Justice Chitapi denies Hopewell Chin’ono bail

High court Judge Justice Tawanda Chitapi has denied bail to journalist Hopewell Chin’ono who is facing charges of inciting public violence.
The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights has just revealed this new development.
The judgment was read by Justice Webster Chinamhora who was requested to read it by Justice Chitapi.
Addressing a stunned courtroom, Chinamhora said: “This is a judgement by my brother Judge. The operational parts reads: ‘This appeal is hereby denied.”’
“Our lawyers Beatrice Mtetwa, Doug Coltart, and Gift Mtisi tried all they could to that Hopewell gets released on bail but the High Court decided otherwise.” ZLHR said in a statement.
By the time of publishing this story, Hopewell’s lawyers were waiting to get a copy of Justice Chitapi’s judgment to assist them in determining the next step to take.
