Mbuya Nehanda sculptor says the stature is work in progress

Mbuya Nehanda statue sculptor David Mutasa has finally broken his silence about the Mbuya Nehanda statue following public outcry.

This comes after, the statue made by sculptor David Mutasa sets tongues wagging and got social media talking when its images started circulating on various social media platforms, following its display to President Emmerson Mnangagwa last week.

Some felt that the statue wasn’t accurate in its representation of Mbuya Nehanda, while others jokingly said it showed a younger Mbuya Nehanda as compared to how she appears in one of her well-known images. Some even went as far as calling the statue “Thickana Nehanda” and “Slay queen Nehanda”.

Speaking with VOA during an interview, Mutasa called on Zimbabweans to stop cartooning his statue of Mbuya Nehanda.

Mutasa explained that he is still refining the Mbuya Nehanda statue and people should be patient until his work is complete.

However, Twimbos were not impressed by his comments and further went on to argue that he was just coming up with lame excuses. Here are some of the comments from Twitter:
