Job Wiwa Sikhala to be arrested anytime for a twitter

MDC vice Chairman Job Wiwa Sikhala can be arrested anytime for allegedly twitting an incident which happened in town where a police officer baton-sticked a mother with a baby at her back in a Harare taxi rank.

Police officers who are sympathetic to the firebrand politician tipped him a few hours ago that a team was being put in place to arrest him.

“Pane twitter yamaka twitter muchiti commentor issue yemupurisa ari kunzi akauraya mwana nebutton stick. Anytime munokwanisa kuvingwa navakomana kuzokusungayi over that issue,” reads part of the alert sent to Sikhala.

The Zengeza West Legislator told Zimbabwe Observer that what he twitted does not constitute any offence.

“I am a lawyer and I watch closely what I twit. There is no law which was broken by that twitter. These people have nothing to do during the lockdown period,” charged Wiwa, who is also a top Harare lawyer who has not yet lost any court case.

Sikhala also revealed to Zimbabwe Observer that a friendly Zanu PF minister called him aside at parliament and warned him that the system was planning to kill him.

“This minister called me aside and said iwe imbonyarara these days usataurisa, vanhu ava are planning to kill you,” said Sikhala in an exclusive interview with Zimbabwe Observer.

The chilling warning followed after Sikhala warned Zanu PF regime against the continued mismanagement of the country and charged that “January was coming.”

The regime interpreted the statement as threat of mass protests in January.

Sikhala who enjoys a huge following is on a 24-hour surveillance by the state security agents who fear his capacity to lead street protests.

Wiwa spent a month and a few days at Chikurubi Maximum prison last year and is on bail on charges of trying to incite citizens to rise against an elected government.

Responding to the latest threat to arrest him Sikhala said he was waiting for the arresting team to arrive at his home.

Police spokesman, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi did respond to inquiries from Zimbabwe Observer about Sikhala’s alleged impending arrest.
