Minister July Moyo’s neighbor who chose not to be named confirmed the incident saying: “There was a break-in at Minister July Moyo’s homestead. The thieves stole groceries, which had just been delivered. I think the thieves or thief must have seen them being delivered.”

Another villager added that following an inspection of the crime scene by the police, armed soldiers then descended on the small village.

The police first attended the crime scene and then soldiers came and assaulted the villagers accusing them of stealing the groceries. One old man who was assaulted severely was caught cycling his bicycle, he said.

Villagers confirmed that the minister’s sister and a caretaker stay at the homestead.

However, according to New Zimbabwe Minister Moyo denied any knowledge of the theft at his homestead or the assault on his neighbors by armed soldiers.
