Vice President, Kembo Mohadi must go!

Vice President, Kembo Mohandi

Today, we post a story, audio and pictures about 71-year-old Kembo Mohadi’s bed-hopping antics that reportedly left him with a bloody nose yesterday.

The story by Zimlive would have been one of those trivial scandals to discuss with colleagues around the coffee-making machine on a lazy Monday morning. However, this is the vice-president of Zimbabwe, who leads the country when President Emmerson Mnangagwa is away or on leave.

He committed two crimes here: adultery and abuse of office. The woman Mohadi has been bedding, Abbigal Mumpande, is legally married to Jacob and they have two children. That Jacob Mumpande can seek legal recourse remains to be seen, given that politicians in Zimbabwe control the judiciary. To make matters worse, the woman is a junior intelligence officer in Mohadi’s office, directly under his supervision. That he abused his power to the extent of ravishing his subordinate,  would leave him with no option but to resign. That is, if this was elsewhere. Well, this is in Zimbabwe.

Visualise this: the vice president goes to his private toilet in Munhumutapa Building. He locks the door and lowers his trousers and takes a picture of his “situation”, has a look at it and decides to take another shot, and another until he is satisfied with the results and then presses send and the image goes to a woman working in his office! A few minutes later, a smiling Mohadi saunters back into his office, passes through his lover’s desk and winks at her. She smiles back, acknowledging receipt of his X-rated image.

You would expect such behaviour from a teenager, not from a 71-year-old grandfather. With many people now on social media, chances are pictures of his situation will leak, if they have not already done so and will circulate to his sons, daughters, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law and the general public.

In a normal country, vice-president Mohadi would bow his head in shame and resign. In fact, he should. Taxpayers fund his opulent lifestyle to work, not to spend most afternoons bedding and sending nudes to nubile young subordinates. If he does not resign voluntarily, then President Mnangagwa should fire him. That is the only way he can bring some semblance of respectability to his government.
