Mberengwa born Tkay Maidza bags a prestigious music award in Australia
Twenty-four-year-old Zimbabwean-born Australian singer-songwriter and rapper, Takudzwa Victoria Rosa “Tkay” Maidza is making waves in Australia after winning an award at the Sailor Jerry Rolling Stone Australia Awards 2021.
Tkay Maidza came out triumphant with her boundary-pushing EP Last Year Was Weird, Vol.2 in the Best Record category. Her single, Shook, was also nominated in the Best Single category. Maidza is born to a family of musicians who are also academically gifted. Her parents are Munyaradzi Maidza from Chegato in Mberengwa while the mother, Jenet Hwende is from Karoi.
Tkay’s father Munyaradzi and his young brother Teboho, who are both metallurgists also double as part-time musicians. Munyaradzi is based in Australia and playing with AfroOZ Musica while Teboho is with Rudimentary Band in Cape Town.
