Relatives of Gweru killer now targets of a revenge
Following last week’s horrific killings in Gweru, relatives of the alleged shooter, 35-year-old Peter Dube have revealed that they are now living in fear for their lives. This comes as Dube’s family have been receiving threatening phone calls and messages since the bloodbath occured.
The prominent car dealer went on a murderous rampage last week in which he shot at four people. The polygamous businessman who was in a jealousy-fueled rage suspected that his second wife, Nyasha Nharingo was cheating on him.
After a heated altercation, he shot Nyasha (31) and her elder sister Nyaradzo (34) as well as Nyasha’s best friend Gamuchirai Mudungwe (30) and her boyfriend Shelton Chibhango. The latter two, Gamuchirai and Shelton suffered fatal bullet wounds and died on the spot, while the Nharingo sisters suffered critical injuries and were rushed to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Gweru Provincial Hospital.
Reports from state media and independent media on Friday and Saturday said that Nyaradzo Nharingo had succumbed to her injuries on Friday afternoon. However, this appears no to be the case. The two sisters are now reported to be stable after having undergone life-saving surgeries.
Dube has been on the run since committing the heinous shooting which rocked Gweru. He remains at large, though the police have since launched a massive manhunt to apprehend him.
Dube’s brother Advance revealed that his family is now living in fear for their lives following threats to kill them and to burn down all the cars in Dube’s car dealership.
Advance, who is one of the people who filed a police report following the horrific shooting, said that the people threatening the family are claiming to be Chinhango’s friends and workmates.
“I understand Chinhango was into gold mining and was based in Kwekwe so we have been receiving serious threats from people who claim were in Kwekwe and are coming after us.
“The calls I constantly receive are so frightening that I even went to the police to make a report. They are threatening to come and burn down the car sales business and police have advised us to clear the cars,” he said.
He went on to say that the Dube family was shocked by Peter’s actions. They have tried to reach out to the families of the deceased, but so far their efforts have not been successful.
Advance also said that he has no knowledge of his brother’s whereabouts.
