KZN man’s fatal love for beer led to sudden death
A 45-YEAR-OLD man reportedly died during a stampede on Wilshire road in Mariannhill, west of Durban, on Monday, 9 August.
According to KZN police spokeswoman Colonel Thembeka Mbele, the man was among the crowd of people who went to the area to help themselves to the booze that was being thrown away by a liquor outlet.
“The alcohol was placed outside the liquor outlet. It was reported that the expired alcohol was put outside after the outlet had cleaned up, and awaiting disposal,” said Mbele.
She added that while the booze was outside, residents noticed and stormed the premises.
“Public order police, together with local cops, dispersed the crowd after it became uncontrollable. During the stampede, a man died at the scene,” said Mbele.
She said an inquest docket was opened for investigation at Mariannhill cop shop.
