BULAWAYO – Despite being a Councillor for Ward 25, in Bulawayo, Mzama Dube is also an illustration of a farming leader, whose target is total poverty eradication, following his establishment of three huge inland gardens that are serving the communities with vegetables and practical agricultural skills.

In these two wards, people have already endorsed him as a Great leader because of the way he serve the communities in the areas and what he has done for them,  especially the most helpful garden projects and new boreholes.

In an interview with Farmers Insight Africa, Councillor Dube had this to say, “In normal working conditions I usually meet with the residents every month for feedback meetings, on improving agricultural activities in the area, however with the current situation of COVID-19 and the lockdown, I have created a Ward Social platform, where I share what I have with the people.

I also go to Leaders square and have a meeting with the residents and give feedback on the required farming conditions and imputes,” he said.

“Here in Ward 25, we have 20 squares in which we make the transfer of information to the people easier without breaking the COVID-19 rules. I meet with the leaders of the 20 squares and they go and share the information at hand with their residents”, he added.

In this current situation, Councillor Dube has managed to find donors and put up projects, the two most powerful community gardens that are solar powered, and have the capacity to deliver enough vegetables to the Nkulumane districts of Bulawayo, and the surrounding supermarkets.

“I have put forward agricultural projects and these have been of immense success and of help to the residents. I have managed to come across donors and we have new boreholes, garden projects and we have gardens that have the water pumped with the use of solar energy. We have the Tower light Ever Green garden at Nketa 7 and the Enkundleni garden at Nketa 9.

“The relish circumstances have been an blemish to the residents but when I look around the other Wards, Ward 25 is far much better than other Wards especially Magwegwe and Pumula per say. With the residents we have managed to farm and reduced total poverty from our soil, reason being that the community here is ready to work tirelessly.” Said Councillor Dube.

Benson Mahlangu, a ward resident in Bulawayo, applauded the efforts being put by Councillor Dube in keeping the community in action, against poverty through the established projects.

“As an orphan I would like to thank Councillor Dube for the great works he has done to help the residents of Ward 25. The project of gardens is helpful to us as orphans, the elderly, widows, widowers and the disabled.

We benefit a lot as we get not only vegetables from these gardens but we now sell the products of the garden and buy other needed things. We have put up a fence to protect our gardens from the dogs that would now and again get in and destroy the gardens with the help of Councillor Dube, we managed to have each person donate US$2 to other vulnerable and this was a success.

“With the project of new boreholes, Councillor Dube helped the residents in easing water shortages as the Bulawayo City Council water rationing is a big challenge in the first stages of gardening.  People now get their water from the boreholes, also this helps when there are funerals, water is readily available to everyone anytime thereby cutting down the water bills in houses,” added  Mr Simon Mayanga.

Mrs Simangaliso Ndlovu also told Farmers Insight Africa, on the great job that Councillor Dube is doing in the two Wards of Bulawayo.

“Councillor Dube is a God given servant leader, who has defied all the covid19 predicaments, by standing with us, in time of need, He established gardens for the residents and he has also put up boreholes to help when there is no water.

We pray that God bless him and if wishes were granted as per our dreams, we will be glad to have him as our legislator.” Said Mrs Ndlovu
