MDC A leader Chamisa under attack again in Manicaland

Violence has erupted in Manicaland where MDC A leader Nelson Chamisa is meeting his party structures to prepare them for a 2023 watershed election where he is squaring off with Zanu PF strongman Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The opposition party claims that Chamisa’s advance vehicles have been stoned in Manicaland during a high speed chase with hired Zanu PF thugs driving in unmarked vehicles.
MDC A information department said loud gunshot sounds were heard during the attack.
“Violence of the sort experienced in Mazvingo has broken out in Mutare where President @nelsonchamisa is set to meet community leaders. A number of Hilux vehicles carrying armed, rowdy thugs are advancing towards the President’s convoy. Details to follow,” said MDC A spokesman Fadzayi Mahere in a distress call on social media.
Chamisa’s motorcade was attacked in Masvingo last week raising tension in Zimbabwe’s politically charged environment.
However Zanu PF dismissed the incident as a stage managed attack designed to discredit the government ahead of the UN special Rapporteur’s visit to Zimbabwe to access the impact of the economic sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the US and Western allies.
United Union’s special Rapporteur, Alena Douhan arrived in Zimbabwe yesterday for a 10 day visit to access any improvement in the observation of human rights by the Zimbabwe government.
Douhan has already engaged President Mnangagwa and his Minister of Justice Ziyambi Ziyambi on the impact of the Sanctions. She is also expected to engage various stakeholders including MDC A, MDC-T and Civil Societies.
However Douhan flew into Zimbabwe to find Chamisa under physical attack raising fears that the sanctions might remain in force as Zanu PF continues to be unrepentant.
