Chamisa violates party constitution for the third time
Opposition MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa has made sweeping changes in the party leadership making some appointments outside his powers.
Chamisa made new appointments to key positions in the party with Sesel Zvidzai being appointed Co-Vice-Chairperson, even though both the elected Chairwoman Thabitha Khumalo and her Vice Job Sikhala are still alive and not incapacitated to carry out their responsibilities.
Chamisa’s appointment of Zvidzai drew scorn from people who felt that Ngahapinde Hake Mukona chap has a high appetite of violating the constitution.
“He is tempering with the mandate of the congress. Vice Chairman position is an electable position and the constitution of the party is very clear on positions which the President can appoint people. Remember the late Morgan Tsvangirai’s appointment of Chamisa and Mudzuri to Vice President Position was found to be unlawful by the courts. And Chamisa should have drawn a leaf from that,” said a Bulawayo based lawyer and a member of MDC A who requested anonymity.
Zvidzai, a former Deputy Minister of Local Government and Urban Development, confirmed the appointment in a Facebook post on Friday. Read the post:
After two days pasting together the jigsaw puzzle for the change we all need. Change that will deliver for us all, the Zimbabwe family.
Happy to make my contribution in my newly appointed post of VC of the Party of excellence by President Chamisa

Chamisa also appointed pro-democracy human rights lawyer and legislator for Hwange Central Fortune Daniel Molokele as the new Deputy Treasurer-General. Molekele confirmed the appointment:
Confirmation of my Appointment …
I am so humbled to confirm that President Advocate Nelson Chamisa has appointed me as the new Deputy Treasurer General of the MDC Alliance with immediate effect. Thank you.
There have been mixed reactions to the appointments with some suggesting that the appointment of Zvidzai is a blow for Job ‘Wiwa’ Sikhala who is the elected Vice-Chairperson.
Some said Chamisa was violating the party’s constitution as the holders of that office must the elected by the people. Chamisa unconstitutionally took over the Presidency of the party soon after Tsvangirai’s death compelling the legitimate successor Thokazani Khupe to approach the courts for a relief. The courts ruled in favour of Khupe and nullified Chamisa’s MDC-T Presidency. NHM also stunned his party members when he appointed Fadzai Mahere Spokesman of the party, even though her MDC membership was way below the mandatory five years. Mahere contested as an independent against an MDC A party candidate Sam Banda for Mount Pleasant parliamentary post.
“We wonder if he was a member of MDC by the time she was appointed spokeswoman of the party,” remarked a member of the standing committee, who requested not to be identified.
