Video: Zimbabweans being chased like dogs in South Africa
These Zimbabweans who have families to feed in both South Africa and Zimbabwe were dismissed from work in Germiston for being foreigners. The Zimbabwe Diaspora Forum confirmed that the victims shown on the above video are foreigners. The majority of them still hold valid Zimbabwe Exemption Permits that have been extended to December 2022. Locals invaded Ganymude factory and demanded immediate dismissal of all foreigners. In the background cheering South Africans are heard shouting: “Hamba kwerekwere. Futsek!” as visibly frightened foreigners stream out of the factory.
Another voice is even heard suggesting that the Zimbabweans were luck to be allowed to leave without being thoroughly beaten up.
The tense and loaded video gives the impression that attacks broke out later as the local people are clearly circling on the Zimbabweans.
Zimbabwe Observer is making a follow up over the incident. One of our reporters is in the area to gather information in order to piece-up together details of the incident.
The tense situation was made worse by the recent decision by the South African Cabinet not to renew special permits of close to 200 000 Zimbabweans.
