Khupe booted out of MDC T as internal fights turn ugly
The Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC-T has suspended its first vice president Thokozani Khupe with immediate effect.
In a statement this Thursday, MDC-T Secretary For Information and Publicity Witness Dube said the party is investigating several allegations made against Khupe.
He however did not specify the allegations.
Below is the full statement by Dube:
The MDC T wishes to advise that First Vice President Dr Thokozani Khupe has been suspended.
A letter dated 12 January 2022 was personally delivered to Dr Khupe and her legal team.
The suspension was with immediate effect, pending investigations into the various allegations levelled against her.
Investigations are being conducted by a team led by the party’s Arbiter General.
The suspension is in line with the party constitution and is a result of certain issues that arose.
Once the said issues are investigated and fully resolved, the party will communicate such.
Khupe had earlier on Thursday announced that she would address a press conference on Friday where she will also herald Mwonzora’s exit from the presidency of MDC T by way of notifying Zimbabwe Electoral Commission of his MDC Alliance membership.
Mwonzora filed papers with ZEC where he announced that his party shall be contesting By-elections as MDC A.
Khupe’spokesman Phugeni Khalipani took to social media to announce that Mwonzora fired himself from MDC T by joining MDC A
“Mwonzora can’t be leader of two political parties; MDC Alliance and MDC-T. By declaring himself leader of MDC Alliance, he has expelled himself from the party,” says Khalipani.
