Sangoma threatens to strike female neighbour with lightning after raping her in bush
A sangoma appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Shepherd Mnjanja for allegedly se_xually assaulting his neighbour in a bushy area where he was cleansing her.
Jeffrey Sibanda was not asked to plead and was remanded out of custody to 14 April 2022.
He was advised to apply for bail.
Sibanda lives in Old Magwegwe and was approached by his neighbour claiming that she had been having sleepless nights because she was not married.
It is said the desperate woman went on and revealed that every man who promises to marry her would desert her after having se_x with her.
It is said the sangoma told her that he could cast out the anti-marriage spirit that was tormenting her.
He ordered her to come to his home and they went to a bush where he instructed her to strip nak_ed and he cleansed her. After that, the court heard, he groped her brea_sts and touched her stomach.
He then dragged her into the thicket and carried out the se_xual assault.
After the alleged rap_e ordeal, he warned her never to tell anyone as he threatened to strike her with lightning.
The woman went home and shared the sad news with a relative who advised her to report the matter to the police.
Sibanda was arrested at his home.
In an unrelated incident, a man named Ronald Saopa (20) who lives in Emakhandeni suburb allegedly sexually assaulted his mentally challenged neighbour at her home.
The minor informed her mother who then reported the matter to the police.
He appeared before magistrate Shepherd Mnjanja facing a rape charge and was not asked to plead.
