Government pays teachers $2
The militant Teachers’ union of Zimbabwe are breathing hot air after some of their members were paid $2 this month.
Angry teachers who were beginning to trickle back to schools are now heading back home plunging the education system into crisis.
So bad is the situation that children face the grim prospects of being left alone without Teachers’ supervision.
Progressive Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe Dr. Takafira Zhou described the government’s decision to further impoverish teachers as insensitive and provocative.
Government has courted the ire of teachers after it reportedly deducted huge amounts from salaries of educators who went on strike when schools reopened last year.
Some teachers got as little as $2 after the deductions.
The development has triggered anger among teachers, who are now planning a full-blown strike in protest over the deductions, which they said were in violation of the Constitution and labour laws.
