Sikhala’s Arrest: Wife’s Car Impounded As She Visits Detained Husband
The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has said a vehicle belonging to the wife of the party’s vice-chairperson, Job Sikhala, has been impounded by police.
The wife had visited the detained Zengeza West legislator who was arrested on Tuesday on allegations of inciting public violence in Nyatsime, Chitungwiza.
Violence erupted between ZANU PF and CCC supporters at a memorial service for slain CCC activist Moreblessing Ali.
CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere says Sikhala’s wife had brought food for her detained husband at Harare Central Police Station when the car was impounded. She said:
We are advised that the wife and relatives of Hon @JobSikhala1 have been denied access to Central Police Station where Hon Sikhala is being held. His car has reportedly been impounded.
The party said Job Sikhala’s wife was then instructed to remove all important documents from the car which was then taken to the Harare Central Police backyard.
CCC vice president, Tendai Biti described Sikhala’s arrest as an act of desperation by the government led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
He said::
The arrest of Hon Job Scala & Godfrey Sithole yesterday evening is a desperate act by an illegitimate paranoid regime. The killers of #Moreblessing have not been brought to book but audaciously the victim becomes the target. Absolutely ridiculous.
He also called for the immediate release of the two Chitungwiza legislators.
