Chamisa abandons Gokwe rally amid violence

This is Zimbabwe’s main opposition leader @nelsonchamisa’s convoy of cars under attack from ruling party ZANUPF thugs in Gokwe.

The convoy was being pursued whilst stones were being thrown on from the side of the road.

CCC leader Nelson Chamisa abandoned the Gokwe-Kabuyunu rally after homicidal violence against his supporters by Zanu PF erupted.

Chamisa was in Gokwe for a rally to drum up support for his party candidate Coustin Muguti ahead of the Gokwe-Kabuyunu constituency seat by-election this weekend.

The opposition leader was whisked away from the scene by his security as violence intensified.

CCC spokeswoman Fadzai Mahere said journalists covering the event were thoroughly bashed by Zanu PF thugs. Journalists Tongai Mwenje, Toneo Rutsito, Pellagia Mpurwa and Chelsea Mashayamombe have been heavily assaulted by ZANUPF supporters. Rutsito lost a tooth during the assault.
