CCC Leader Nelson Chamisa has just survived an attempt on his life after an explosive was thrown at his motorcade.
This was revealed on tweet by Dr. Pedzisai Ruhanya, a close confidante of the opposition leader, who added that a Honda Fit was seen taking off at high speed after the incident.
“An unidentified explosive thrown at @nelsonchamisa motorcade near the venue of the rally in Chinhoyi. The driver in a Honda Fit vehicle sped away after the incident,” said Ruhanya a tweet which has gone viral.
The explosion occurred as Chamisa’s motorcade was about to enter Gadzema stadium in Chinhoyi.
Eye witnesses said, “a man in a silver car dropped ‘something’ and a few minutes later it exploded.”
Chamisa is in Chinhoyi to address a thank you rally to express his gratitude to party supporters for voting his candidates in the just ended by-elections.
CCC bagged five out of the six local authority by elections in Chinhoyi’s Ward 2, 3, 8, 12 and 14, where its candidates Patricia Chibaya, Richard Vhitirinyu, Mukudzei Chigumbura, Dyke Makumbi and Chipo Mhlotswa romped to victory.
CCC Spokeswoman Fadzayi Mahere vowed that the rally was going ahead despite the bomb threats adding that Chamisa was already on stage addressing the masses.
“Despite a bomb scare earlier, our Chinhoyi #ThankYouRally is going ahead. The mood is electric & the bumper crowd is ecstatic. Our Change Champion in Chief has arrived & is sharing his message of hope & inspiration for Chinhoyi…” reads Mahere’s tweet.
