Mermaid releases woman as Madzibaba piles pressure
A 33-year-old woman from Chivasa village in Zimuto Masvingo Province who mysteriously disappeared at Popoteke river in a suspected mermaid (njuzu) attack miraculously came back alive yesterday after intense prayers and intercessions by an indigenous apostolic church prophet from Zvishavane.
Susan Muvadi from Chief Zimuto’s area is said to have gone missing mysteriously 5 days ago on her way to Mutema Shopping Centre to buy some groceries.
The woman’s husband Jasper Katuli told our journalists in an interview that his wife had vanished in the presence of his sister while crossing Popoteke river on their way to Mutema Shopping Centre.
“Susan went missing on Jan 29 and I went to seek help from Vapostori who have been camping in our area for a while and they instructed me not to cry or raise alarm while promising to help pray for her safe return.
“My sister is not sure how she vanished. She only said she did not cross the river with her when she moved fast to dodge an approaching whirlwind (chamupupuri) and never thought of checking on her,” Katuli said.
Susan’s husband Mr Katuli said he was still to come to terms with what happened to his wife.
“I am still to know how it all happened because my sister who was there has no clear descriptions. When Susan herself came back, she could not say anything.
“A clear explanation would clear my heart of what really happened to my wife during the days she went missing. What l know is after prayers at the church the prophet took us to the river where we she suddenly surfaced floating on the water sitting on a reed mat, it was strange,” Katuli said.
Mutumwa Simabii, the prophet who challenged the mermaid through prayers, told this publication he was to stay with Susan for two weeks to initiate her to become a prophet or healer.
“Most people who survive mermaid attacks become traditional healers but Susan will be a prophet. Men of God are interceding on her behalf and praying for her angel to come and guide her in her prophetic work,” Simabii said.
