THE late former President Robert Mugabe’s daughter, Bona Nyapudzai Ouma Mugabe-Chikore (32), has filed for divorce against her husband Simbarashe Mutsahuni Chikore (46).
According to her lawyers, the divorce summons were filed yesterday at the Harare High Court.
“Her lawyers, indeed, filed the summons today (Tuesday) at the High Court,” a family insider said.
The family member could, however, not divulge the details leading to the break-up, only preferring to say their marriage had irretrievably broken down.
The couple tied the knot in 2014 in front of over 4 000 guests, among them three heads of State, family, friends and other dignitaries from across southern Africa.
The well-choreographed and colourful event earned its place in the country’s history books and was broadcast live on State-run ZBC TV.
In 2015, there were reports that their marriage was on the rocks.
Bona was reportedly forced into marriage by her mother, then First lady Grace, against her will to first concentrate on her career as a finance expert or banker.
It was also reported that Grace wanted her to settle down first, plan a family and then look into career matters after becoming a mother. The couple has three children aged seven, five and two.
Bona Mugabe who cited citing promiscuity as the main reason for divorcing husband, Simba Chikore is demanding US$8 100 a month maintenance.
“In the event of the granting of the Divorce Decree by the honorable court it will be just and equitable that the Defendant be ordered to pay maintenance for the minor children in the sum of USD2 700 per child monthly…”
Bona said during the subsistence of their marriage, they jointly as well as severally acquired various movable and immovable property. However, she says dealing with proprietary issues in the suit will delay granting of the divorce decree.
The couple tied the knot on March 1, 2014, in a lavish ceremony at the family’s private home in Harare’s plush Borrowdale. The couple has three children aged seven, five and two. Bona sought full custody of the children arguing that it was in their best interests but with Chikore granted access to them every alternate weekend
