Ostallos hit with fresh criminal charges

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) deputy spokesperson and Pelandaba-Tshabalala MP Gift Ostallos Siziba has been hit with fresh criminal charges ¹. 

This follows his recent arrest facing charges of inciting violence at Barbourfields stadium which saw a football match between Highlanders and Dynamos ending prematurely last Sunday ². 

In the new charges, Siziba is accused of defacing Zanu PF candidate’s campaign posters ¹.

According to CCC spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi, Siziba is currently being held at Bulawayo Central Police Station and is due to appear in court this Friday for both cases ¹. 

There is now a third charge on the Deputy Spokes reported by a FAZ double candidate from his constituency ¹.

The crackdown on opposition members after the general elections has sparked outrage. 

Harare deputy mayor, Kudzai Kadzombe, was arrested for inciting public violence on Thursday and is appearing in court ². 

Government critic Hopewell Chin’ono described the arrests as a desperate attempt by Zanu PF to attain two-thirds majority in parliament ².

Chin’ono said CCC legislators and councillors have been arrested for frivolous issues during and after the elections. 

He added that ZANUPF is desperate for a two-thirds majority to change the constitution by removing term limits ¹.

According to iHarare News, Siziba was rearrested today by Law and Order ahead of his court-scheduled appearance. He was accused of defacing campaign posters belonging to Zanu PF rival Soneni Moyo and replacing them with his own campaign posters. Siziba still confronts two remaining charges—singing at the home of a (FAZ) candidate and tearing down Zanu-PF rival election posters ³.
