Harare, Zimbabwe – In a shocking turn of events, five members of the National Democratic Working Group (NDWG) were arrested in Kuwadzana while engaged in a humanitarian mission to assist vulnerable communities. The group, led by Advocate Job Sikhala, was taken into custody for allegedly gathering without police clearance.

“This is a clear case of harassment and intimidation. We were simply exercising our social responsibility to assist the vulnerable, and the police pounced on us,” said Courage Shumba, NDWG Director of Information and Communications. “We will not be deterred in our mission to support those in need, despite the government’s increasing paranoia and machinations.”

According to Shumba, the members were distributing monthly contributions to support the elderly, orphans, and other vulnerable individuals. The organization, which comprises churches, students, businesses, and other constituencies, aims to provide essential aid in the face of the country’s famine disaster.

The arrested members include Edmore Svinurai, Emily Mwali (accompanied by her 7-year-old daughter), Isaya Ndawana, Patience Ndoro, and Regina Aniwute. They were taken into custody at Aniwute’s private residence, where the meeting was held.

The NDWG has expressed concern over the government’s increasing paranoia and machinations, alarmism, despondency, and overzealousness in the wake of corruption revelations involving high-ranking officials.
