Mafume claims to live in a car auction yard

HARARE — Zimbabwe capital’s mayor Jacob Mafume is accused of lying under oath this morning to the Maphios Cheda-led commission of inquiry into the city’s affairs by claiming a car auction address was his house.
The commission made an inspection in loco only to find out the property, located on Coronation Road at number 1110 in Greendale, is not residential as claimed, but a vehicle auction site.
When Mafume tried to explain the discrepancy, Justice Cheda, seemingly peeved, told him to save that for another day.
Mafume claimed it was a mistake, saying his house was just two blocks away from the initial address.
However, the commission refused to accept that and proceeded with the inspection.
Later, the convoy, comprising journalists and the entire commission, headed back to the Disaster Management Centre, where the public hearings are being conducted.
