Patriotic Zimbabweans (PZ) candidate Faith Chuma ‘sole objective for contesting to be a Member of Parliament in Chivi South is give equal opportunities to residents of her constituency.

Chuma, a mother of four is uncomfortable with the huge disparities in Chivi South.

“People are suffering, no job, no economic activities, food insecurity and no money for school fees,” said Chuma who added that someone must put a stop to this kind of suffering.

Chuma could be comfortably a local leader of Zanu PF in Chivi, but she chose to dump the ruling party to join PZ led by Charles Muchineripi Mutama. Chuma was a Zanu PF youth leader before joining PZ in September 2021.

The aspiring legislator told Zimbabwe Observer in an exclusive interview that President Mutama’s gospel of equal opportunities attracted her to the Patriots.

“I come from Mwenezi where most families can’t afford decent meals especially during the drought period. All the opposition political parties talk of democracy without touching on bread-and-butter issues, but PZ is all about how to economically empower people which addresses what people need right now. People don’t eat politics by food,” said Chuma.

She added that top on her priority if elected MP is to work towards improving food securities by sourcing funding for irrigations schemes, drilling bore halls and poultry projects.

“It is better to struggle with all other problems than to run short of food,” said Patriot Chuma

She lamented over the exclusion of the majority in exploitation of natural resources in Masvingo.

“Only a few in the ruling party are enjoying the natural resources which this country is rich in. The poor are getting poorer while the rich are getting richer,” complained Chuma.

PZ President Mutama said his party has faith in female leadership adding that more women will be given opportunities to contest to be MPs in 2023.

“We exercise what we believe in. Women must be given equal opportunities just like men and this explains why you will see a lot of PZ female candidates in 2023. Women are equally capable if not more focussed than man. Tinenge tichienzanisa mikana nekumadzimai,” said Mutama.

PZ Vice President Chiwoneso Mpofu vowed to give Chuma all the support she needs during the campaign period. “We need that Chivi South seat and Chuma is assured of my support,” said Mpofu
