Harare residents were left stunned and worried as tanks and armored vehicles rolled through the city streets, sparking widespread panic and speculation on social media. The sudden appearance of brand-new military equipment has drawn eerie parallels to the events of November 2017, leaving many to wonder if history is repeating itself.

Former Mount Pleasant MP Fadzayi Mahere took to social media to demand an explanation from Nick Mangwana, President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesperson.

“Why are there military tanks on Harare’s roads today? In light of the constitutional parameters of military deployment, the public have a right to know,” asked Mahere?

In response, Mangwana downplayed the situation, attributing the military presence to routine testing of new equipment.

Despite Mangwana’s reassurances, the images of tanks and armored vehicles patrolling the streets have sent a chill down the spines of many Zimbabweans. As the situation continues to unfold, residents and observers alike are watching with bated breath, eager for clarity on the military’s intentions.
