Journalist Watson Munyaka killed in suspected targeted attack in Marondera

MURDERED JOURNALIST: Watson Munyaka
In a tragic turn of events, investigative journalist Watson Munyaka has been murdered in Zimbabwe. Munyaka, a researcher and journalist at Dug Up, a publication known for its hard-hitting exposés, was allegedly abducted, driven to Marondera, and thrown from a moving vehicle on Tuesday. His death has sent shockwaves across Zimbabwe.
The news of Munyaka’s death was confirmed by his colleague, Maynard Manyowa, the senior investigative journalist and lead producer at Dug Up. In a heartfelt post, Manyowa shared the devastating details of Munyaka’s murder.
Colleague Confirms Death
Manyowa broke the news in a social media post, expressing his devastation.
“Good evening everyone. My brother Watson Flexy Munyaka has indeed passed away. Watson was a brother and a colleague. A dear part of what we have been doing at Dug Up. He was central to what we used to do at Khuluma Afrika too.”
“Watson was murdered and his body was dumped in Marondera this afternoon. According to hospital staff, neither expensive gadgets nor money were removed from his body – which makes us believe he may have been targeted for work with us.”
“It is a terrible and devastating blow.”
Manyowa described Munyaka as a crucial part of their investigative work.
“Watson was one of the many pillars that allowed us to conduct in-depth queries in Zimbabwe. He was our boot on the ground. An experienced researcher who knew how to conduct a thorough investigation.”
“I have lost a brother, a friend, and a rock behind the scenes.”
Munyaka was known for his fearless approach to journalism. He worked behind the scenes, gathering intelligence and verifying sources for some of the most hard-hitting exposés.
Manyowa Expresses Fears
In a follow-up post, Manyowa, who is based in the United Kingdom, shared his concerns about the circumstances surrounding Munyaka’s murder.
“May I add that we know probably as much as you do. The same info you have is what we have. I am far away, and until there is a post-mortem and police release, we can only go by what hospital staff say.”
“We can only hope police provide answers rapidly – and unfortunately, given the nature of Watson’s recent work, we can’t help but be both suspicious and terrified.”
His statements have sparked widespread speculation. Many in the media industry believe Munyaka’s murder may be linked to his work. Dug Up, the publication he worked for, has made headlines for exposing corruption and political scandals.
Calls For Answers
Munyaka’s murder has left many in shock. Colleagues and supporters are now calling for swift police action to uncover the truth behind his killing.
