Video: Desperate Zimbabweans prepared to die as they force their way into South Africa
As the South African authorities continue to turn away people without proper documentation from entering the country, desperate Zimbabweans have resorted to risking their lives by entering the country illegally.
This comes at a time when South Africa has introduced strict measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19. The South Africa Department of Health is now requiring that all travellers should have a negative Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours. This has seen a lot of people failing to enter the country.
However, undeterred by their inability to enter the country legally, a lot of Zimbabweans have resorted to what is euphemistically referred to as “border jumping.” In their quest to enter South Africa, many have disregarded all concerns for their personal safety and are willing to risk their lives to leave Zimbabwe by any means necessary.
A video is circulating on social media, which shows dozens of Zimbabweans using a rope to lower themselves from what appears to be a bridge. Any misstep could result in one or more people falling a considerable distance and sustaining injuries or even death, in worst-case circumstances.
