A Harare young man is nursing boils and itching face after being burnt with an unknown substance by suspected members of the state security agencies. His face is turning black and developing itching boils.

Legwani Mavhunga’s only sin was to go to Rotten Row Magistrate Court yesterday for the trial of MDC fiery politician Hon. Job Sikhala who is facing charges of inciting public violence.

“I am told he has been burnt by unknown substance on his face and tortured all over his body,” said MDC A Vice Chairman, Sikhala, who is also a top lawyer in Harare.

Sikhala told Zimbabwe Observer last night that Mavhunga was still in detention at Harare Central Police Station even though no charges were pressed against him.

Hundreds of Sikhala supporters who thronged Rotten Row Magistrate Court yesterday were violently chased by the police.

Friends of Job Sikhala issued a statement yesterday condemning the attack which they said was not justified, claiming that their members were peaceful.

The group threatened to close down Harare on 21 April if the police were to provoke them again on Sikhala’s Judgement day. Sikhala’s legal team yesterday tore into the case against their client and a judgement on their submission will be delivered on 21 April where thousands of members of Friends of job Sikhala are expected to descend to Rotten Row court.

“It won’t be business as usual in Harare. It will not operate on the day in question. We will do what we have been denied to do by the dictatorship of Emmerson Mnangagwa. We will shut it down easily. This we will carry it out. Stop the abuse you did yesterday, and this is a WARNING,” warned the group in a statement released late yesterday.

Meanwhile Sikhala has turned to social media to appeal to President Emmerson Mnangagwa to have Mavhunga released to get medical attention.

Mr Mnangagwa, this young man Legwani needs urgent medical attention. He is currently under the custody of your security services at Harare Law and Order. Nations can’t be governed under such tactics as torture,” said Sikhala in a tweet which he tagged President Mnangagwa , United State embassy, British embassy and Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights.

Zimbabwe Observer’s efforts to get a response from the Minister of State Security Owen Mudha Ncube drew blanks.
