Frustrated MDC A bigwigs join Zanu PF
Lillian Timvoes greeting President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the State House as she crossed the floor to join Zanu PF
MDC A Deputy Treasurer-General Lillian Timvoes have joined Zanu PF together with another Party stalwart Blessing Chebundo.
The duo were today welcome into the ruling party fold by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, his deputy Constantine Chiwenga and Chairperson Oppah Muchinguri.
Timvoes initially resigned a couple of weeks ago citing autocratic tendency by the MDC A leader Nelson Chamisa as the reason. Efforts to get her back to the Party drew blanks as Timvoes maintained that she could not put up with the rampant dictatorial tendencies of the top leadership of MDC A.
She confided this to one Party leader who is equally being tormented by his comrades. A lot of other MDC A leaders are busy scouting for political homes as they felt that their current political outfit was getting inhabitable.
MDC A said they respect their former colleagues’ decision to cross the floor.
Chebundo famously defeated Mnangagwa, who was then an aspiring MP, in the 2000 and 2005 general elections, winning the Kwekwe Central seat despite threats to his life.
Timveous contested for the MDC Alliance vice presidency at the party’s congress held in Gweru in 2019 but lost to Tendai Biti, Lynette Kore and Welshman Ncube.
