National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) chairman Obert Gutu Tuesday said Gukurahundi is a very small, tiny fraction of the various other disputes the commission was discussing. He said while there was always talk about Gukurahundi, a massacre of approximately 20 000 civilians in Midlands and Matabeleland in the 1980s, as the only issue, the commission was also seeking to resolve many other complex issues.Gukurahundi, committed by the government, has divided the nation since the 80s. Survivors and relatives of victims of the massacres are demanding reparations while some other stakeholders are calling for the establishment truth and justice commission to gather what really transpired. They argue that the nation will not heal if there is no closure to the case. To date, some of the survivors still find it difficult to get identification documents such as birth certificates and identity cards.Watch the video below for more.
