MDC-T VP Mudzuri faces imminent arrest for murder

Opposition politician and Vice-President for the MDC-T party, Elias Mudzuri is reported to be facing an imminent arrest for murder.

iHarare has learned from online publication Zimlive, that Mudzuri was specifically named as one of the perpetrators by a dying man who had been assaulted at a bar.

According to an internal police memo which was seen by ZimLive the savage assault is alleged to have taken place at the Duriro Pub & Grill in the Workington industrial area which is reportedly owned by Mudzuri.

The 23-year-old Ronald Mukumbira, of Epworth, was drinking beer at the pub when he got into an altercation with Mudzuri and his companions. The reasons behind the altercation were not revealed in the police memo.

The verbal altercation degenerated into a physical one and Mudzuri is alleged to have teamed up with other people to assault Mukumbira.

Mukumbira was later rushed to the Sally Mugabe Central Hospital at around 3.30 AM after he had been left for dead. He sustained a deep cut on the head as well as injuries to his ribs and knees.

He was treated and discharged from the hospital and made his way back to Epworth where he arrived at around 3 PM. According to the police memo which is dated 11 June, Mukumbira identified some of the people who had assaulted him and told his mother.

“Upon arrival at his place of residence, Mukumbira told his mother Netsai Mukumbira that he was assaulted by Elias Mudzuri, Leonard Mudzuri and other unknown accused persons at Duriro bar.”

Minutes after identifying his alleged assaulters to his mother, the 23-year-old stopped talking and died on June 10.

His body was taken to Tayedzwa Funeral Service but is expected to be transferred to a government hospital for a post-mortem.

A police source who spoke to the publication said that they are keen to question Elias Mudzuri.

“We’re very keen to question Elias Mudzuri. We should make an arrest this weekend.”
