…and I am not a sex worker

SOCIALITE and singer Mai Titi has described herself as someone, who is unlucky in love, following recent criticism of her love life which seems chaotic at times.

In the past year alone, the controversial socialite has dated a string of men, who include Zizoe Pamyke, Charles “Obina” Ugwa from Nigeria and recently, she got engaged to Tinashe Maphosa.

With Mai Titi chronicling her every move on social media, it is no surprise that many critics have labelled her “a commercial sex worker” with the way she was going through relationships.

“All I can say is that I am just unlucky when it comes to love. I have realised that I was dating the wrong guys over the years. But that cannot make me a sex worker,” Mai Titi told the Daily News on Sunday.

She said she does not enter into a relationship for the sake of pleasing society but she will be genuine and hoping to find the love of her life.

“All I need is to be happy. I find no reason why I should endure an abusive relationship just to please the society. If things are not working, there is always option B,” the mother of two said.

In November, Mai Titi said “Yes!” when Maphosa popped the question while they were on holiday in the United States. The couple did not stay engaged for long soon and exchanged vows with Mai Titi insisting that she has found her perfect match.

“This time around, I believe I have made the right choice. He (Maphosa) came into my life knowing everything about me and we clicked so well,” she said.

However, with Maphosa based in the US, Mai Titi is not yet prepared to leave Zimbabwe.

“I will only visit the US here and there but I will be here in Zimbabwe most of the time,” she said. “Maphosa is a God-fearing person; he is always there for me.”

With the world recently celebrating the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Mai Titi urged women to take their positions in the society and refuse all forms of GBV.

“We should always act, not suffer in silence. Women should feel free to make themselves happy no matter the cost. Personally, I have made it a policy to refuse all forms of GBV as I trust in myself,” she said.
