Legislator was allegedly on his way to block Chamisa from driving into Midlands

Mberengwa South nearly held a second by-election in one year after the newly elected MP Tasara Hungwe narrowly escaped death in a horrible a car accident last weekend.

Hungwe was travelling in a Zanu PF truck heading to Gweru with his party’s DCC Chairman Paul Maposa, other leaders, Agreement and Macharangwanda, when their car’s front wheels came off and overturned several times before landing with its roof. Two wheels were completely ripped off while the back and front windscreens were shattered.

Hungwe became Mberengwa South MP in March this year after beating CCC’s Davis Shoko with a wide margin in a race to replace the late Alum Mpofu.

As to how the four Zanu PF Mberengwa leaders crawled out of the wreckage with only minor scratches remains a miracle.

“Panga paita mahakurimwi,” remarked one of Hungwe’s key supporters, Philemon Hove.

Hungwe told Zimbabwe Observer that he was lucky to be alive adding that all other occupants of the car went to their homes already after being discharged from hospital.

Soon after the accident, pictures of their Zanu PF logo scripted wreckage started circulating. The four were allegedly on their way to block CCC leader Nelson Chamisa from entering Midlands Province.

Hungwe denied the allegations and maintained that they were rushing for a meeting in Gweru.

“Its not true we were going kumusangano wedu kuGweru,” said Hungwe. When contacted for a comment Maposa also labelled the claims as “lies.”

“Lies won’t go far,” said Maposa.

Hungwe attributed the cause of the accident to the rough roads and ruled out any foul play.

“Front wheels came out. No, its normal ne terrain yedu iyi. You should check because vibration is too much,” said Hungwe.

CCC leader Nelson Chamisa wished them a speed recovery when Zimbabwe Observer contacted him to check is he had any engagements in Midlands over the weekends.

“Oh oh hey hey! I wish them a quick recovery,” said the CCC leader.
