Renowned journalist and filmmaker, Hopewell Chin’ono,  raised $6060 for Job Sikhala, a Zimbabwean veteran opposition politician and lawyer who has been in prison without a custodial conviction for over 483 days as of October 9, 2023.

The fundraising campaign, dubbed Go-Fund Initiative, was organized by Estelle Adams-Stone under the medical category to cater to Sikhala’s urgent medical needs following reports of his deteriorating health.

The funds were also intended to help Sikhala’s family with day-to-day needs.

Chin’ono handed the money to Job Sikhala’s son, Job Sikhala Junior, who expressed his gratitude to everyone who donated and retweeted the fundraiser.

Job Sikhala has been denied bail although bail is a constitutional right.

He is now seriously sick, and his family is financially struggling for the bare minimum

This Go-Fund is to help his family with day-to-day needs and the medication that Job Sikhala needs.

Sikhala has been in pre-trial detention at the Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison since June 2022 following his arrest in connection with the violence which erupted at the funeral wake of slain party activist, Moreblessing Ali.

He also faces an additional charge of disorderly conduct and obstructing the course of justice .

The story of Job Sikhala is a reminder of the importance of standing up for one’s people’s rights and freedom.

It is also a testament to the power of collective action and the impact that it can have on people’s lives.
