Court orders sick Mamombe to come to court
Harare magistrate Bianca Makwande has ruled that MDC Alliance MP Joana Mamombe, who is admitted at a private health facility, should be taken to court on Wednesday afternoon so that the State proceeds with its application to have her examined by government doctors.
This comes after prosecutor Michael Reza told Makwande that they have received video evidence from the investigating officer, which suggests Mamombe is not suffering from an anxiety disorder as claimed by her lawyers
Reza intended to make an application to visit Borrowdale Halfway House in Harare, where Mamombe is admitted and have her examined by two government doctors.
Makwande turned down the State’s application to visit the health centre saying it was not procedural and instead, Mamombe should be taken to court, then the State proceeds with its application in terms of the Mental Health Act.
Mamombe’s lawyer Jeremiah Bamu, who was standing in for Alec Muchadehama, told the court that she could physically walk to court but she cannot comprehend the trial proceedings.
