In a shocking turn of events, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has dismissed SADC and opposition CCC leader Mr. Nelson Chamisa’s calls for an election rerun as a mere “pipe dream”.

The embattled ‘Croc’ urged Zimbabweans not to be swayed by individuals living in the past, as the elections were a thing of the past.

Addressing the 372nd Session of the Politburo at the Zanu PF headquarters in Harare, President Mnangagwa emphasized that Zimbabweans should look forward and not be influenced by daydreamers.

He stated, “Now that the elections are behind us, we should not be distracted by the leader of the main opposition who remains stuck in the past while both Zimbabwe and the region are moving into the future. His call for an election re-run is a pipe dream, the earlier he realizes that, the better for himself and his opposition party.”

His utterances came amidst growing international and regional condemnation of the sham August elections that sanitised ED’s unscrupulous return to Munhumutapa building and State House. All election observers vituperated ZEC for failing to organise and run credible elections. SADC fired the first salvo dismissing the elections as a mockery to SADC elections guidelines. This stance was endorsed by the SADC foreign ministers yesterday, literally sentencing ED to illegitimacy.

President Mnangagwa’s remarks have sparked a flurry of reactions on social media with some dismissing them as the last kicks of a dying horse. Some users have expressed their support for his stance, while others have criticized him for his dismissive attitude towards SADC and opposition’s demands.

In response to these criticisms, President Mnangagwa claimed that his administration has a record of promoting democracy and human rights. He also added that his government made significant progress since coming to power through a military coup in November 2017.

However, these claims have been met with skepticism by some observers, who accused ED’s administration of corruption and human rights abuses.

Despite these glaring inadequacies, ED proceeded to appoint a new cabinet of novices and same old faces.

As Zimbabwe moves forward under President Mnangagwa’s leadership, it remains to be seen how these political dynamics will unfold and what impact they will have on the country’s future.
