CCC activist found dead
The abduction and killing of main opposition CCC activist Tapfumaneyi Masaya while campaigning in Mabvuku, Harare, has highlighted the post-election reign of terror by state security agents linked to by-elections, especially in Mabvuku-Tafara constituency where Zanu PF gold baron Pedzisayi Scott Sakupwanya is desperately trying to win amid intimidation and abductions.
Sakupwanya lost in the constituency during the recent general elections.
He is trying his luck again in the by-election following the Sengezo Tshabangu-engineered recalls of CCC MPs, senators and councillors.
Last week former Mabvuku-Tafara MP James Chidhakwa and MP Takudzwa Ngadziore were abducted and tortured by state security agents.
At the weekend, Masaya was grabbed by armed and forced into a vehicle during campaigns ahead of by-elections on 9 December.
The CCC claims the abduction vehicle is owned by Sakupwanya, the Zanu PF candidate fighting for the seat with its member Phibion Hakutizwi Munyaradzi.
CCC spokesperson Promise Mkhwananzi said:
“We condenm the murder of Tapfumaneyi in the strongest possible terms. This country can no longer continue in the path of lawlessness and impunity. We hold the government of Zimbabwe squarely responsible for this carnage. We call upon Mr. Emmerson Mnangagwa
while still dejure President, to uphold, protect and promote the rule of law, the constitution of Zimbabwe and ensure the safety and security of every citizen. We urge the
Police to do their work and ensure that all these abductors are promptly and effectively brought to justice.
We urge SADC
to expedite it’s intervention, working with the political leaders in Zimbabwe namely President Nelson Chamisa of the leading democratic alternative the CCC and Emmerson Mnangagwa of ZANUPF
