Hatirarami Momberume Charged With Anna Machaya’s Murder
The man at centre stage regarding the controversial death of 15-year-old Anna Machaya has been charged with murder.
Anna Machaya’s paedophile husband Hatirarami Momberume (26) was charged with her murder on Friday after appearing before Magistrate Lucy Mungwaru.
He was arrested after his child bride who got pregnant at the age of 14 died during childbirth at a church shrine in Marange.
The court heard that Momberume took the now deceased minor to Johanne Marange traditional midwives where she died soon after giving birth.
Prosecutors presiding over the case argued that it was Momberume’s responsibility to ensure that Anna got proper medical care considering the fact that she was a minor.
“He had a legal duty as the alleged husband to ensure that such a young child was taken to special health facilities to deliver, realizing that there was a real risk or possibility that his conduct by omission might cause the death of Anna Machaya during or after the delivery of the baby,” said the prosecutors
ZimLive revealed that the accused paedophile is also facing a second charge of “having sexual intercourse or performing indecent acts with a young person”.
The second charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
He was remanded in custody to September 3.
Meanwhile, Anna Machaya’s father Elmore Machaya (45) and mother Shy Mabika(36) are also expected to appear in court on Friday(today). This comes after the Zimbabwe Republic Police pressed charges against them for obstructing the course of justice.
Anna’s parents hid information and produced the wrong documents in a bid to hide the death of Anna.
They allegedly provided law enforcement agents with identity documents belonging to Memory Machaya who is a cousin to the late in a bid to conceal her age.
In addition to that, they also pledged their 9-year-old daughter to Momberume as Anna’s replacement.
