CHINHOYI — Central Intelligence Organisation operatives, the police and soldiers swarmed Chinhoyi yesterday after President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s regime was rattled by a false tip of MDC-A leader Nelson Chamisa’s presence in town distributing Christmas goodies.
According to MDC-A organising secretary Amos Chibaya, who slipped through the State cordon unnoticed, there were more than 10 roadblocks between Harare and the Mashonaland West capital.
“What’s the reason for this panic?” Chibaya asked, before telling the recipients of food hampers at Sunningdale Trust Old People’s Home, “They heard people’s president Chamisa was coming to give you food. That’s why they flooded the highway with roadblocks!”
“Is it a crime for Chamisa to donate food? Why are they so scared of allowing him to move around freely?”
Chibaya said prices of basic commodities had gone out of the reach of ordinary citizens, hence the MDC-A president had sourced groceries to bring temporary cheer to the hard-pressed and vulnerable members of society.
Beneficiaries included the elderly, orphans, the disabled and victims of political violence. He also donated groceries to people who were at his party’s offices in Mzari suburb but failed to proceed to Good Shepherd Children’s Home after Zanu PF supporters sealed off the place.
